The Russell Stover package came by UPS yesterday.

The reminder tag told me to expect redelivery anywhere from 2:00 to 5:00, fortunately UPS was there at 2:00 sharp. This is the package they had for me.

Inside were these two lovely boxes:

The first is a pink Elvis embossed tin filled with a large selection of Russell Stover chocolates. The second is a red faux-alligator skinned box filled with 5 delectible candies. This smaller red box is the new Whitman's candy line Soho.

The Soho chocolates are what Cari refered to as the candies for an "adventurous" palate. I will let the candies flavors speak for themselves:

- Pear praline
- Sea salt caramel
- Madagascar vanilla brulee
- Pistachio nougat
- Cacao truffle
- Raspberry ganache

I fully expected going into this that I would not like at least a few of these candies. My live in lady friend [info]invalidity and I found all of the candies to be superbly delicious. My favorites were the pear praline and the pistachio nougat. Simply put, these candies have an unexpected flavor. I have got so used to the coconut/caramel/creme fillings of normal candies that it was a shock to find some of the flavor combinations twirling around in my mouth. These are not your grandmothers chocolates. The only criticism I have is the packaging. The red alligator box reminds me too much of a Liz Claiborne perfume box. I was hoping for something a little sleeker. The criticism is weak though because once you taste the candies you wouldn't care if it came wrapped in newspaper.

From what I hear on the internets the Whitman's Soho chocolates and a few other new Russell Stover chocolates will hit the market this spring. I would strongly suggest picking some up.

I was very pleased with the Russell Stover package and [info]invalidity and I are still working on the Elvis tin.

Thanks again Cari and the Russell Stover team!

Check back soon for the Stella glasses.

I agree, just having you describe those new ones makes me want to find them locally! That sea salt caramel sounds great to me!

Oh, and I got my friend Jenny the Elvis tin for Valentines Day! *G*

The Elvis tin candies were good too, I kind of neglected them though in favor of the Soho.

I don't mean to pitch anything but these candies were so good that I could eat myself into a diabetic coma with them.

It was pretty good. I didn't taste the "sea salt" part though.

The sea salt caramels sound particularly intriguing :-)

I thought they were going to be like a salt water taffy chocolate or something. Although I can't really judge its quality because I ate it so quickly.

I actually bought a tin. Which ones are which? lol... I'm pretty sure the white one with the yellow swirl was the vanilla - I've had brulee before, and it tasted right along those lines. the white one with swirls, though... I think it was the raspberry ganache - I thought I tasted some berry flavor in there. But then it could have been my tastebuds deceiving me, and could instead have been something else that I haven't actually had before (like pistachio nougat perhaps? I only had pistachios once, and haven't really had an opportunity to eat them since, so .. yeah, my tastebuds can easily be tricked).

I'm assuming that the sea salt caramel will speak for itself... but it'd be nice to know which one is which so I can really see what matches to expectations and what doesn't. Especially when there's a chance someone might discover my stash and steal before I get a chance to try them all. I want to guess that the cacao truffle is the rectangle of dark chocolate with the drizzles of milk chocolate mixed in? Also assuming that the pear praline is the one with the lil yellow swirlies? Though... I could be waaay off base, since I haven't actually eaten those yet. ^_^
